Change your thoughts and you will change your life …
Have you ever heard that saying before? Positive thinking and the power of thought seem to be all the rage now a days. And with good reason.
Your thoughts can be your best asset to a better life, or they can be your worst nightmare, depending on your control over them.
Have you ever noticed that when you wake up in a good mood, you’re happy, thinking good thoughts (without trying to), and things just seem to go your way… On the other hand, you wake up in a bad mood, get out of bed, stub your toe, spill your coffee, and then you are in an even worse mood than when you first woke up, therefore you are grouchy to every one and your whole day just seems to spiral from there…
It’s not a coincidence that when you are having good thoughts you are happier and things seem to go your way. Or that when you have negative thoughts you are in a bad mood and bad things seem to happen to you. Whatever you are looking for in your life is what you are going to see more of. You cannot have negative thoughts and expect to have a positive life. Furthermore, if you are positive you will be more likely to see the good in everything and not let one little thing take your power.
“Take your power”
Everyday when you wake up, you and only you have the power to decide how you are going to feel each day. Once you allow an outside circumstance (example: someone cuts you off in traffic) to upset you, you just gave away your power.
Think about it, if you let something that you literally cannot control change your mood, and ruin the rest of your day, who is that helping? That person who cut you off doesn’t care. Getting upset about it is not going to make them feel bad about it, they won’t even think about it again. So why are you letting some random jerk take your power and spoil your whole day because of 30 seconds of your morning?
I want you to take your power back.
Take charge of your thoughts and decide right now that you are going to look for the good and not allow anything to ruin your mood.
When something undesirable happens it’s OK to acknowledge it. Just don’t dwell on it. Let it go.
During a day you have thousands of thoughts running through your head. Most of which are probably so automatic that you don’t even mean to think them. However, that doesn’t mean you cannot change those thoughts now. I bet if you started to actually pay attention to the thoughts that go through your head in one day, in one hour, in one minute, that your life would make a lot of sense.
The thoughts you think most right now might not even be your own thoughts. The thoughts currently running through your mind might be things that people have told you constantly, or things that you have read and seen a lot about. After hearing or thinking something for so long you will actually start to believe that they’re the truth. Then your thoughts become the story of your life.
It may take a while to train your brain to look for the positives. However, the only way to eventually get to the point where you naturally seek the good over the bad is by actively working at it.
The more you are aware of your thoughts, the more power you have over them. Therefore the more power you will have over your own life.
I challenge you to go one whole day with out complaining and to only look for and talk about the good.
Whenever anything happens, say or think, “the good thing about this is….” and look for a reason. Look for the positive in every situation.
I guarantee that you will have a better day.
I’m not saying it’s easy. Your brain is just like any other muscle, you will have to strengthen your brain by teaching it to let go of the negatives and to think more optimistically. However, the changes you see and feel in your life will be worth it.
Once you start looking for the good, you will start to see more and more of it and eventually it will be like you are a good luck charm. However, it is not luck at all.
